Travel During Hurricane Season
1. Hurricane season stretches from June 1 to November 30. While hurricanes make national news, the vast majority of hurricane season is hurricane free for any specific location.
2. The time between April 15 and December 15 is considered low season in the travel business. This means that you can often find the best deals during the summer months. Hotels and airlines know that they must reduce their rates to entice you during that time and the savings can be dramatic; low season rates can be 30 - 40% lower than high season rates!
3. If a hurricane does impact your travel dates, rest assured that we will work with you to change your dates, destination, or obtain a refund. Requests for changes and refunds are always handled on a case-by-case basis. Historically, hotels have been good about waiving any penalties for date changes or cancellations, and airlines typically allow schedule changes within a specific time frame. Airlines generally do not refund money for unused flights, but allow the credit to be used for future travel, subject to their change policies.
4. Take advantage of the Travel Protection Plan, including the optional "Cancel for Any Reason Waiver". The Cancel for Any Reason Waiver allows you to cancel your vacation for ANY REASON with the guarantee of a refund of all land components of the trip, as well as refundable bulk airfares (excluding the cost of the insurance itself). 6. Consider a destination outside of the typical hurricane belt. If you want to take advantage of low season rates for Caribbean travel, but want less chance of weather impacting your trip, you may want to consider locations that are outside of the traditional hurricane belt. The ABC islands of Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao, are located in the southern Caribbean and historically have not been direct targets for hurricanes, though weather in the area can still be affected.
